Canadian wins Top Prize

It was nice to see that a fellow Canadian won top prize in the annual Shell Rotrella Super-Rigs competition in Iowa this past weekend.  Ryan Danylchurch of WInnipeg, Manitoba grabbed a $10,000 plus numerous other prizes for his 2001 Peterbilt 379.

CANADIAN WINS TOP PRIZE AT SHELL ROTELLA SUPERRIGS

WALCOTT, Iowa — Ryan Danylchurch of Winnipeg, Man., captured the “best of show” top prize, winning $10,000 at the 26th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs competition, which was held June 5 to 7 at the Iowa 80 truck stop.

Danylchurch’s 2001 Peterbilt 379 also won a coveted spot in the 2009 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar along with a case of Shell Rotella T motor oil, and an Iowa 80 prize package.

The three-day truck beauty contest for actively working trucks provides owner/operators from the US and Canad, the opportunity to compete for $25,000 in cash and additional prizes.

In total, 25 prizes were awarded in categories that included: tractor; tractor/trailer combination; classic; best chrome; best theme; best mural; best lights; best interior; best engine; and people’s choice.

The people’s choice award was voted on throughout the event by all contestants and spectators and was won by the 2000 Freightliner Classic XL of Bob and Shelley Brinker of Grayling, Mich. In addition to Danylchurch, a select group of 11 other truckers also won the bragging rights to appear beside their trucks in the 2009 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

Three other Canadians also placed well in the contest: Larry Dyck, from Winnipeg, won second place in the tractor/trailer division for his 1987 Peterbilt 359 and 2000 polar tanker. Jonathan Dyck, from East Saint Paul, Man. won third place in the tractor division for his 2007 Peterbilt 379 Legacy; and Andy Bannerman from Winnipeg, won fifth place in the tractor division for his 2000 Peterbilt cabover 362.
